Hello Free Spirits,
This is Nicole reporting from New Prague in Czech Republic! I love it here the people are friendly, the architecture is 100% better than in Toronto and their food and drinks are very cheap! Before I get into my trip details. I will tell you a little secret this place has been my dream vacation since I was 10 or so. I remember looking through one of those daily newspapers and seeing a travel advertisement about Prague. I immediately loved the place without knowing much about it that I told my parents I would love to go there by myself and I was dead serious, even at the age of 10. 12 years later I am here and I understand why I was so drawn to it from the beginning.
Here is some of the architecture, this is a random basic street.
More photos in a bit, after I outline my trip/flight experience from Toronto.
We, as in my mom, sister and I flew Air Canada to Václav Havel Airport Prague.
The flight was approximately 9 hours and the food was shit and there was a bit of turbulence especially when going over the Ocean. But other than that I had a great time because I faced my fear of flying. For those that know me I am really afraid of flying because of the turbulence. So I was extremely happy when we landed safe and sound. We had the worst experience with this taxi pickup company called Skyway Transfers. We waited 40 minutes for our driver to pick us up. His excuse is that there was lots of traffic at the airport and I knew that was bullshit, other drivers were there earlier to pick up their passengers. Anyways. We had our Airbnb ready for us in the New Prague area.
Here is what it looked like!
Our Airbnb apartment was in a great location for students and young travellers. There were lots of hotels and hostels in the area so the street at night was filled with young adults from all over! It was a great safe place with lots of good vibes, bars, restaurants, cafes and fun chatter!
On our first day we spent a lot of time walking around/getting lost exploring the city.
But we found Food!!! For lunch we stopped at this restaurant called Pizza Coloseum right at the corner of Vaclavske Nam street and Na Prikope. Both which I would consider great streets for some shopping.
There is a great store along Na Prikope called Mango which is one of the largest retailers in the world and their Prague location is amazing!!! This isn’t your average warehouse store, here you feel like you are a millionaire doing some shopping. But your wallet will not be super empty after you leave and they have prices equivalent to H&M. Its truly awesome! I bought two beautiful shirts for the equivalent of $40 Canadian which is pretty darn good for the quality and style you are getting.
After some shopping my sister and mom went back to our apartment to relax and shower, but I still had the travel bug. So while they were getting washed up I explored what the New Prague area had to offer. On my 30 minute walk around the apartment I saw the Dancing House up close and I learned that it is home to many offices.
I also saw the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral.
And here is the beautiful view from the Jiraskuv Most(Bridge).
I stopped at a small super market around the area and bought myself some pretzels and bananas. All very cheap I think I payed around $3 for both items. What I noticed on my grocery trip is that the cannabis culture is very popular here in Prague and most convience stores sell cannabis chocolate, muffins, cookies, lollipops and even cannabis infused beers.
After doing some inspection about whether or not it is legal turns out that according to leafly.com: “Smoking marijuana outside is illegal. Of course, you can do it, but don’t get caught by police. If you get caught, the police officer will most likely just give you a fine. However, the officer can also search you for more drugs. Having more than 10 grams of dried buds on you is considered a crime, not an offence, which means you can face criminal charges” So now that you know that you can appreciate the candies and chocolates that the stores offer 🙂
We went to sleep nice and early because we didn’t sleep on the plane and you know the jet lag was getting to our brains and we were getting cranky.
Overall great first day in Prague! Posts about Day two are coming up in a few days.
Sending lots of love from Prague!! Follow me on social media to see more cool photos about my adventures!
